We get asked all the time here at Stretch Zone – how did it start? Where did the idea come from?
Well, it all started with a pain in the back. But let’s go further back than that.
Stretch Zone was founded in Miami in 2004 by Jorden Gold, one of the world’s foremost experts in practitioner-assisted stretching. At the time Jorden was perfecting the craft in South Florida and working with a Who’s-Who list of clients, including Lenny Kravitz, actor George Hamilton, pro-athletes from the NFL, NBA, MLB and ATP such as Dwyane Wade, Marshall Faulk, Chris Carter, and legendary Hall of Famer Jim Brown. He also partnered with a number of professional sports teams.
It wasn’t until the early 2000’s that Jorden teamed up with a high level executive team and began to build out the Stretch Zone franchise system as we know it today. Today there are over 50 locations in Florida, Georgia, North & South Carolina and Michigan.
And that brings us back to North County; how did we bring Stretch Zone to the Encinitas? Well, again, it started with a back ache, presumably brought on lots of miles running and lots of miles logged in an airplane seat, crisscrossing the country for work. On one particular trip to Fort Lauderdale, a friend recommended I check out Stretch Zone, a new concept he had just invested in. I went in for a demo appointment and was hooked instantly. There were a few particular stretches that did it, but it was more about the entire 60 minute session that left me feeling great in a way that massage or chiropractic alone just can’t.
That was early 2016 and after months of meetings, planning, budgets and buildout, we opened our Encinitas location on December 12, 2016. We are proud of the fact that we shattered the one day, one week and one month sales records for the company, but as we just celebrated our 8 month anniversary this past weekend, we are even happier about the lives we have changed. We have worked with folks with MS, Parkinson’s, bad backs, sports performance issues and everyday folks with nagging back, shoulder and joint problems.
We have seen a lot of new faces over the last 8 months but we are proud of those same faces we see week in and week out, including those folks that have been with us since day one – we are excited to feature their stories over the next few months.
